Baby Blanket Progress

The baby blanket is almost half-way through. I was a little worried I didn't have enough yarn, but I realize now that I'm going to be just fine. What a relief!

Early Birthday Present!

Check out the awesome birthday present I bought myself:

MY VERY OWN BALL WINDER!! YAY!!

I couldn't afford a swift, but I just tossed the hank over a chair back and it worked well enough. Near the end it started getting tangled a bit, but it was still so much faster than rolling by hand even if I had to stop a few times to work out the knots.

And what's on the ball winder? The pretty new yarn I bought to make the lace ribbon scarf. It is knit picks gloss in "cosmos." The yarn is really soft - it's 70% merino wool and 30% silk, fingering weight. Only $3.99 a skein! Man, I love Knit Picks! I know I already have too many wips, but the scarf is going to be my new commuting project because I won't need to follow a pattern.

p.s. My birthday is May 30 - next Friday!

Update

I've been working on the baby blanket this week and I'm a little over 1/4 way through (estimated because I have used 1 of the 4 skeins of yarn that I planned to use). It's a pretty boring knit, but it's working well because I started my internship last week and I am completely exhausted at the end of the day - I don't have the energy for more complicated projects. I need to take another pic to show off my progress. It's really soft, and I'm glad I'm doing the rolled edge - it looks nice. My "due date" for finishing this thing is June 6 - that's going to be one of my last facials before my aesthetician has her sweet little baby girl.

I'm getting a little ansty about all my other WIPs. I need to work on them so I can cast on for all the other projects I'm dying to start. Oh my goodness!

Finals + out of state visitors + new job = very little knitting and no blog posts. Let's see if I can do better!

Here is a pic of my little sweet baby blanket progress:

Little Sweet Baby Blanket

I cast on today for the "Big Bad Baby Blanket" from Stitch 'n Bitch, but mine is going to be called the "Little Sweet Baby Blanket" because I'm making it for a little sweet baby! :) She's due in July, so I've gotta do some marathon knitting on this one.

I'm happy because I finally found a project for my Bernat Denim Style yarn -- I loved that yarn when I bought it, but I've never quite found anything to do with it. Interestingly, the pattern calls for a hand-painted 100% wool fingering yarn. And in the instructions she says not to sacrifice easy care over beauty. But honestly, what kind of idiot would knit a baby blanket out of fine wool? Maybe if you were just knitting it to be something pretty to throw over a chair or something, but in the real world babies puke on everything and blankets need to go in the washer.

I think this is going to turn out really cute! I'm slipping the first and last stitches on all the right side rows so I can get a nice round edge - I hope it looks nice.
